Millet Company, [1901-02]/ 8vo. 2 large folding maps, numerous photographic plates throughout. and extra-illustrated with approxiimately200 unique watercolors on silk plates, on title pages, and in the margins of the text. Full crimson morocco, spines gilt tooled and onlaid with cream and green morocco medallions: front and rear boards with gilt tooled fillet boarders, enclosing a leafy scroll border gilt-tooled with onlays of green, cream, and purple medallions and supporting in turn and oval centerpiece containing three naturalistic irisis, each flower onlaid in green and cream morocco, also gilt-tooled; front doublures with original in color drawings in both Japanese and Chinese styles, the boarders gilt with onlaid green morocco medallions; rear doublures of bright green crushed levant morocco with similar boarders; fly-leaves of green damask silk; gilt tops, uncut. Finally each volume housed in its own slipcase. A few covers neatly rehinged. Internally fine. Extra-illustrated edition on Japanese vellum, in deluxe binding. One of a very small unknown number of copies, "Special Illustrated Copy / Printed Decorated and Bound for" with subscriber's name blank on limitation sheet of volume 1. Magnificently and profusely uniquely illustrated with original watercolors, of birds, flora, landscapes, and human figures, many on silk and many signed. Only three copies of the 15 volume extra-illustrated edition appear in ABPC. An extraordinary set.
