Centenary Limited Edition Collected Works of Sir Winston Churchill and the collected Essay. Thirty-eight large octavo volumes, each individually housed in a matching red slipcase with Churchill coat of arms emblazoned on the side. Illustrated throughout. Uniformly bound in exquisite red leather with gilt spine and titles inside double- fillet borders, single ruled border on front boards, gilt turn-ins, and decorations, including Churchill's coat of arms on the upper front boards, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Fine as-new condition with very minimal wear to either books or slipcases. Only about twenty set were bound in red morocco and are preferred for handling and readability. Printed on special 500 - year archival papers, the set was published on the occasion of what would have been Churchill's 100th birthday and limited to 3000 total sets: 2000 sets authorized for the British Empire and the Commonwealth, and a further 1000 sets for the United states of America and Canada. The set composed of each and every book-length works published by the great Prime Minister and was the first time these works were collected as such, and still the only way to acquire all of these writings in a single stroke. A GORGEOUS SET.

Hand tooled on the inside turn in of pure gold leaf gilt, hand gilt on all three edges, gilt lettered on spine and between raised bands, blocked in pure golf leaf on the front cover. The binding has been done Zaehnsdorf Limited, the oldest and large surviving firm on hand bookbinders in Great Britain. The slipcase is lined with swans-down and blocked on the front with the crown of State in gilt. Original slipcase. Near fine. Originally given to Lord Mountbatten in recognition of his help to the author.
