The two pages of manuscript are extensively corrected and revised. Walking was presented as a lecture by Thoreau in his later years but only published after his death. The line in Wildness is the preservation of the world, has remained one of three seminal works of the environmental movement, the other two being Emerson Nature and George Perkins Marsh Man and Nature.
